Our next gig: Sat 17th Sept, Japanese War Effort, Animal Magic Tricks, Yusuf Azak at the Wee Red Bar.

Accidentally reblogged this to my other tumblog, but I’m so excited about the show I DON’T EVEN CARE.

Loch Awe: Year Two

I thought it might be nice to tell you all what we’re going to be doing in the second year of our existence.

Firstly, and most importantly, we’re starting year two the same way we started year one: recording. We have a lot of songs now written which we want to get out as soon as possible. Our next release should be a three track mini-EP called ‘Darling’, the tracklisting of which will be:

  1. Darling, Your Lover (new version)
  2. Darling, You’re Broken
  3. Darling, I Can’t

This will be, in a way, a goodbye to our old folky sound. We’ve changed a lot in the past year. After that we’ll get to work recording our second album proper, ‘Bookmarkesque’ (the title track of which has just been released in demo form here). We don’t have a tracklist for that yet, but expect big-ass sounds (not big ass-sounds, xkcd readers).

Secondly, we’re going to try and play at least another seven shows in the next year. This should kick off in October/November-ish time with the first in what will hopefully become a series of (as I plan on calling them) Happyfun Gigshows. The lineup for this first show is looking ace, and I can’t wait to reveal more.

In somewhat related news, I’ll be playing a solo show on August 20th as part of the Toad at the Circus series of shows. I’m quite excited about it. Please all come along. I promise I’ll play really, really well.

That’s all so far. More soon.

I feel like all our blogs recently have been about the same thing. So here’s another advert for the shows we’re playing:

  • June 30th, The Last Battle EP Lauch w/ King Creosote @ Wee Red Bar, Edinburgh
  • July 1st, The Last Battle EP Launch w/ SHMB @ Stereo, Glasgow

Please come? :)

Et two?

I’m writing this at 2am; I don’t know why - it could certainly have waited until I wake up (update: especially as it’s now 6pm that I’m posting it). Anyhow, no major news to report, just a quick recap of the shows we’re playing and a wee bit of info on our plans.

Let’s start with the gigs, shall we? (We shall). Oliver and I (Matthew) will be playing an acoustic set at the West End Festival with an incredible lineup of our Glasgow-friends (SMAC, Andrew Lindsay, Shambles Miller, WWLOH, Reverieme) on June 19th outside the Lismore in Partick for £FREE. It’s bound to be a good day. I don’t know what time we’re on yet, and will post an update when I do. Next is our (two date…) “tour” with The Last Battle for their EP launch. Wee Red Bar, Edinburgh on June 30th (WITH KING FUCKING CREOSOTE) and Stereo, Glasgow on July 1st (tickets here and here respectively).

Now for our plans: at the moment we’re practising hard for these upcoming shows. We’ve become a little bit louder (Jack and I are now both playing electric guitar), I’ve dropped some of my novelty instrument playing (let’s face it, I’m shit at concertina) and Joy’s going to be singing a lot more. Also, as The Skinny suggested, the addition of a bass player (HI BRIAN) has fattened the sound nicely. So yeah, be excited. After these shows we’re going to get back to recording. The plan at the moment is to release a short concept EP continuing the story started in Darling, Your Lover in August or September, followed by our first “full length” album between November 2011 and January 2012. The album is mostly written, and partially demoed, and I’m really very excited about it. We’ll be playing songs from it at our upcoming shows.

On a totally unrelated note the new Sparrow and the Workshop record is great. Get it.

Nu-gigs.

Hi all,

We are playing at least two incredamaziant (incredibly, amazingly, brilliant) shows over summer. So far confirmed we have:

  • June 30th, Wee Red Bar, Edinburgh. It’s The Last Battle’s new EP launch and it’s got some pretty stunning bands playing who we’re not allowed to tell you about yet. Suffice to say it’s a damn fine lineup. Tickets here: http://www.brownpapertickets.com/event/174326
  • July 1st, Stereo, Glasgow. Another show with The Last Battle (how lucky are we, right?), and also The Second Hand Marching Band, who we can promise are one of the best live bands in Scotland. Tickets haven’t gone on sale for this yet, but as soon as they do we’ll post the link.

So yeah, come to these.

LIPS on Kowalskiy’s Free EP

Hi all,

A demo of one of our new songs, ‘Lips’, is on Kowalskiy’s Free EP this month. I’m writing this post a day in advance (as I’m working at the Edinburgh Science Festival today - YAY MATHS) so I can’t say for sure if the EP’s up yet, or what time it’ll go up, but when it does it will be here. Be sure to let us know what your think of the new song by telling us on our Facebook page. All criticism will be taken to heart, and if you’re really mean we might even cry.

Lots of love,

Matthew x
